Before Miuccia Prada took over the fashion house in the late 1970s, Prada had not been much different from other luxury brands with their products, solely offering a range of luxury leather goods. Miuccia decided to experiment with different materials in order to give Prada a fresh look (Leather had been the most used material by fashion houses at the time). In 1979, Miuccia introduced the first range of bags constructed from a heavy duty nylon material, which had been labelled as an ‘anti-luxury’ material. These ‘anti-luxury’ luxury bags instantly became a hit. Prada later expanded into clothing in the 90s, continuing the use of Nylon in their designs, and have never looked back.
This particular piece is a pair of trousers from 2019 season. It features a gabardine construction similar to the signature nylon used on Prada’s bags but with a lighter feel. They have expandable hems for desired fit, 2 standard pockets and a stash pocket on the thigh which is rounded off the Prada signature triangular logo.
